I cringe when I hear it. It’s a word that I first heard in middle school. It sounded frightening and horrible, and without asking, I knew it was. I felt it in my gut, and it disgusted me.
35 years later, it’s mainstream. It’s on T-shirt’s, in songs, movies, and on the tongues of our children. Even the insinuated AF. It may as well be said, because it basically is anyway. It means the same, and it comes from the heart, either way.
So why is it so cool and trendy? What’s so alluring in the choice to use it? Is there a coolness level you’re immediately placed on when said? Seriously, I don’t understand. Do people really believe it’s okay? Do they think God doesn’t care? The bad part is, even though I don’t use the word, I’m forced to hear and read it. I’m forced to accept it. Our freedom of speech eliminates a freedom of hearing and seeing.
Lord forgive us. Forgive our children. Forgive our ignorance and stupidity. Thank you, Father, for Your grace and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. James 1:26
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29
